History
Thermofax Ltd can trace its roots back over 50 years to the early 1970's when heat treatment and the family name of Bullock became synonymous. During an exciting six decades, heat treatment furnaces and engineered parts across the globe can trace their origins back to furnace manufacture, and heat treatment contracting in the Midlands and the name Bullock.
The origins of the company were based upon on-site heat treatment and furnace manufacture. At the time the largest floating furnace in Europe was built with the name Bullock on it, measuring 26000mm x 7200mm x 7200mm for Tubular Engineering works SIF in Holland capable of accommodating 150 Tonne fabrications. This furnace is still in use today.
By the early 1980's the largest permanent furnace in Europe was constructed for McDermott's Offshore Ardersier fabrication facility measuring 21000mm x 10200mm x 10200mm capable of accommodating 250 Tonne oil rig structures.
Many temporary and permanent furnaces were constructed around the globe using the OKKO 1000 modular furnace building system designed by R.T. Bullock. From small high temperature units for the forging industry, up to the largest temporary furnaces for fabricated oil platform legs. A set of 500Tonne legs needing a 30000mm x 15000mm x 8000mm temporary furnace being one of the largest ever constructed.
The manufacture of large industrial furnaces had its complimentary business of sub-contract heat treatment running alongside for many years, with W.F. Bullock and R.T. Bullock working hand in hand. Large scale industrial furnaces beacme less of a big part of the business and the sub contract business is ever growing. The sub contract business has been on its present site since 1985 headed up by W.F. Bullock from its inception, and for the last 25 years being co-owned and run by both W.F.Bullock and T.W.Bullock, this family owned and run business is looking forward to the next six decades within this industry.
